Solution Architecture:Taking EA from the strategic to actionable

What is it?

EA results only matter if you can actually make them happen - which often involves implementing a solution to a problem. Our Solution Architecture capability leverages your EA and applies more specific requirements to complete an analysis of alternatives, such as conceptual architecture, and then continues toward the selection and creation of a Solution Architecture. Solution Architecture describes the requirements for particular streams of work and ensures a both a functional and logical design to meet Enterprise Architecture guidelines and project-level service level agreements. Solution Architecture is the glue that combines the design resource expertise and architecture domain knowledge to ensure both delivery timeliness and governance adherence are achieved.

Why do you do it?

You or your customer needs a target-state architecture and/or analysis of alternatives at a project or business unit level.  You or your customer needs to demonstrate adoption and adherence to technical standards at the project and business unit level.

What do you get?

Our Solution Architecture artifacts are tailored to your organization and the context of your needs. Typically, we provide a set of organized requirements, solution alternatives with comparative costs, a matrix of solution risks and issues, alignment with application of relevant architectural patterns, and the enterprise impact to solution alternatives.  Our experience has shown defining the enterprise impact at the solution level bridges the gap between Enterprise and Solution Architecture.

Specific artifacts may include:

  • Conceptual architectures
  • Architectural alternatives analysis
  • Reference architectures
  • Solution patterns
  • Service specifications
